Relational Injury & Betrayal Recovery Therapy
Relationship Wounds That Cut Deep
Relationship wounds can take many forms and it often feels like your brain is on fire.
Secrecy. Broken promises. Betrayal. Abandonment during a time of profound vulnerability or need. Relational injuries cut deeply because they damage the bond with someone who was supposed to feel safe.
And that creates an agonizing dilemma.
After a betrayal, the very person your brain wants to turn toward for safety may now also represent the threat.
You need closeness to feel safe, but closeness no longer feels safe.
Recovery may feel hopeless, incredibly complicated or almost impossible but let me tell you - it is possible to restore your bond. It will take work and emotional investment from those who hurt and those who caused hurt but you can heal your relationship wound.
My work with attachment injuries is grounded in an evidence-based, emotionally focused approach - Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT has a model (Attachment Injury Resolution Model) that helps hurting relationships heal broken bonds.
In our work we will:
-
establish safety and stabilize your relationship
-
explore the depth and impact of the injury on you and your relationship
-
explore the ways each of you have been trying to cope with the pain
-
explore the meaning of what happened and how it re-shaped how you see yourself and each other, your sense of relationship safety
-
explore what may be blocking the repair
-
for the hurting partner - expressing the impact of the injury
-
for the partner who caused harm - understanding the impact of the injury while experiencing your own emotions about what created the rupture
-
co-create space for genuine and meaningful repair
We will also explore what led to the injury so we can understand the full context and create a meaningful repair without minimizing responsibility or shifting accountability away from the partner who caused the hurt.
